Your personal or company brand is how you appear to the world. It is hence imperative that you represent yourself in the appropriate way.

Once people know who you are and begin to identify you as knowledgeable (or even an expert) in the industry you operate , you will be well on your way to becoming the “Go-To” person in your niche.

The question is, how do you become more recognised? How do you build your authority and your following?

If you’re looking to build your personal or company brand, we have listed Four (4) easy ways below for your consideration.

Explain your Inspiration & Be Authentic

Each and every one of the companies out there have a monetary goal to achieve. However, that is not always necessarily the reason why they are in business. Explain to your followers, clients and potential customers the factors that drove you to where you are today. What motivated you and why you believe that this step was necessary. What does your brand advocate? What does it believe in, what is its purpose and who are its brand heroes?

In addition, always maintain your authenticity. Never forget — people connect with other people. If you don’t appear to be a real person, or if it just looks like you’re faking it, how likely do you think others are to trust you?

Show How YOU are Different to your Competitors

The same as any product out there, companies like yours out there are looking to achieve the equivalent of what you are..Results, Customers and ultimately Profit. However, that does not mean you have to compete to prove you are better. I have seen over a period of time that a lot of people do start on a big plan but once they see others getting ahead they get demoralised and slow down because of the sting of “ COMPARING” .Do not fall into this pattern, motivate yourself daily to achieve more and in that way you will always be ahead of your competitors.

Nonetheless, there will be products or services that you offer that are not that dissimilar to your competitors. Focus on other aspects of your business (customer service, refunds, helpfulness, guarantee) to enhance your offering and always add a human touch.

Share a Critical Problem you solve

Stories that involve specific events or problems that affect particular characters is always more relatable. There is nothing better than sharing a brand story about a customer’s success. After all, brand storytelling is not about your company or you. It’s about your customers and the value that they are getting from your product/service.  As a business owner, you go above and beyond to please your customer. You stay up till late, you work on weekends and holidays and give that extra something special they won’t get from the other Brands or Companies.

So talk about it!

Last – but not least – it is crucial that the story revolves around the tactics implemented to solve the problem rather than advertising your brand and why it is great for doing it.

Celebrate a Customer story

Celebrating a success of a customer is vital to attract new customers and build your Brand Awareness. Publish customer photos on your Twitter, Facebook or Instagram account, on your website, or in an email campaign. There is no more powerful way to articulate a brand, product, or service than through real customer stories– 92% of consumers trust earned media more than any other form advertising! Give it a try !

The above should “comfortably” apply to most industries. However, do remember that having the basics all set up (Logo, Leaflets, Banners,Posters,Brochures,Biz Cards, etc) will definitely set you on your way. Spend time thinking of their design and make sure you are 100% satisfied prior to your final decision.
