I am often asked, how and why I decided to start a blog, what advice I would give to new bloggers and how on earth I managed to amass over 7000 subscribers in less than 4 years!
So you’re thinking about starting a blog, fashion, beauty, tech or whatever that may be but you have absolutely no idea where to start, right? Guess what—neither did I. I was totally and utterly clueless. When I conceptualized and started this blog a few years ago, I had no idea how to start a blog or how to be a blogger. Heck, I could hardly spell HTML, let alone build a blog.
Nah, this is not a “put you down” or “glory, glory me” post, its…good news: it’s easier than you think. I have learned a ton of lessons (and still am daily) during my 4 years of blogging and running my own business and now you can learn from my…pain and suffering to circumvent much of the tedium involved in setting up a blog.
It would be easy for me to tell you how to do it or what reason there should be behind but these are all stuff you can find online very easily and at a click of a button. The common route to take is:
- Choose your blogging platform and domain.
- Design your blog using a simple theme.
- Modify your blog to define your style.
- Select the best plugins for your blog.
- Write compelling content, start blogging.
However, before I leave you, I think it is also important to consider the reasons why you are starting this blog. There can be many a purpose such as becoming a better writer (or thinker), inspiring others, sharing your ideas or simply meeting new people however there are 3 main reasons why you SHOULDN’T start a blog.
- Money, Notoriety and Traffic
All 3 above, can become by products of your “good work” later down the line but if these are the sole reasons why you start blogging, you’ll be miserable, because it will seem like a job, and if it feels like a job you won’t be passionate about it, and so you’ll either (a) hate it, (b) fall flat on your face, or (c) hate it and fall flat on your face.
