Katie Meehan is a 22-year-old influencer with a following of 20,000 on Instagram. She started her blog to inspire beauty-lovers, but beauty blogging is more than just eyeshadow and lipstick to Katie, who was born with a facial disfigurement called Cystic Hygroma. Her struggle with the condition inspired her to promote inclusivity and loving yourself. Her positive attitude and drive to succeed in the blogging world have seen her work with market-leaders Boohoo on their All Girls campaign.
What or who inspires you to blog?
“I’m really inspired by people I meet every day, at events or even just online! I’ve made a lot of friends online through blogging. One popped up the other day as having been friends for three years and we talk all the time. This isn’t just a career for me, it’s so much more. The stories people have and their desire to be the best person they can be, inspire me to carry on with my career. We’re all going through something and this is such an amazing outlet for me and so many others.”
What is the worst part about blogging for you?
“I dislike the way you can sometimes feel rejected. It’s also quite an unstable career, sometimes I have a lot of work, other weeks not so much. So the instability can feel a bit scary at first, but I’m working toward my goals and career every day. I dislike the pressure I put on myself. I always want to create better content!”
What brand has been the most memorable for you to work with?
Charlotte Tilbury, for sure! Having the opportunity to work with a brand that you have loved for years is an amazing feeling.
How did you grow your Instagram?
I have been working on my Instagram for years. I think when I was featured on the BBC and in some online magazines, that really helped. I also take every opportunity I can, as networking is really important to me. It’s happened gradually, over around 5 years or so!
